today i finally registered with the music genome project known as pandora. it was orgasmic, let me tell ya. it truly is the giver of all. skeet skeet. i wish i had been using/listening to music on this a loooong time ago.
the music selection is based on personal preference to certain attributes or "genes," as they call it, of music. i mean this is all so ingenious and whatever, but seriously, who doesn't like anything that's tailored! how obvious. it finds and plays songs that it thinks i will enjoy. i can either accept and sit back and continue to listen or veto it with a thumbs down. not all that different from my tivo. stations can also be created based on one song that you enjoy. and then you can just hit play and that "station" will spew out songs of the same "gene."
so here are my thoughts on this crazy intuitive music player:
1. i want "pandora" to be personified. i want pandora to be brandon flowers or that guy i crush on that walks past me on battery street weekly. i want a face to the thing that plays music at me that i already know i will probably enjoy. it would be like him and i are exchanging music, like how you would do with a good friend or what you would do on a date with a new and attractive person you're trying to get to know without asking too many questions while you secretly try not to judge them. so maybe generate a code where i can upload a fantastic picture of someone super attractive and their face will always be there, smiling at me, while i'm rocking out to our sweet jams?
2. i need more variety, pandora. i need you to send me new and different music. broaden my horizons. music that i wouldn't normally listen to on my own. don't just give me different songs from another album from the same artist. that gets old. and you're just being lazy.
3. i need you to be a forward-thinker. give me a single from an album that's about to drop in 3 weeks - that has the same "genes" as music that i've thumbs-upped.
4. please widen the rotation. i don't want to hear the same artist every other song or every third song. you've been doing this to me all day, and it's just getting stale.
now, since i'm new to pandora, i could very well already have these options. if you happen to be a pandora user and know something that i clearly don't, please fill me in, as craig david would say. thank you.
my blog cherry is being popped as i type this. unfortunately, there were no booze involved, nor was i ruphied. i clicked on the orange n white "B" on my own free, sober will. well, that's not totally true:
cathleenp25: its really weird. im pretty bored, yet i don't want to do anything.
cathleenp25: conundrum!
ewalsh83: yeah!
ewalsh83: start a blog?
oh how i love the power of suggestion. and ewalsh83.
so, here i am - blogging. i'd like to think i'm an early adopter, but clearly, in the realm of blogging, i'm part of the late majority. oh well - not everyone is a clutch hitter. so without further ado, i will dive right into the general focus of my blog: music. basically, i live and breath music. i'm snobby, i'm particular and my opinions are not easily influenced when it comes to music, bands, artists, production and song writing. and i'll admit it, if i didn't discover a musician/band on my own, i tend to dislike it at first. i was recently talking to a friend of mine who's been in and out of the music industry for years. he claims that the hanson brothers are some of the most talented musicians around. yes, you read that correctly. he's lucky i'm open-minded. but now as i reflect on that conversation, i wonder if i should believe him. i mean, who am i to say? especially, since their family unit has produced a few hit singles and i've had none...
i'd like to say i'm pretty hip when it comes to music for my age group. i'm well read on all the hip/cool/arrogant music blogs. i torrent albums. i subscribe to local musical venue email blasts. so, my plan for this blog is to just let you know what i'm listening to and/or to let you know what new music is out there and/or what upcoming shows i may be attending. it's also an easy way to share my new fave songs/albums of the day/week/month/year. disclaimer: i may throw you some curve balls and write about something totally unrelated to music, but i will always come back around.
okay. so this is what i'm enjoying "this week":
- fleet foxes - fleet foxes
- css - donkey
- bodies of water - a certain feeling
- erykah badu - new amerykah part one (4th world war)
- music go music
and after i get bored with those albums, i plan on spending some time taking a long-overdue listen to:
- delta spirit
- brett dennan
- beirut
i tend to have a very short attention span when it comes to music. because there is so much good music out there, i choose not to stand still with the same album/genre for too long. this is what i was listening to "last week": - kleerup - air france - sam sparro - the black kids - beck - hercules and love affair
- she and him
crap. my blog is kinda boring. oh well. i'll improve on that. you'll see!
